FIMs (Facing Identification Marks) are markers that are used with business reply and courtesy reply mail. There has been some confusion as to their use with POSTNET Bar Coding. To lay this confusion to rest, I have spoken at length with the post office. FIMs, it turns out, are optional with Bulk Mail and First Class POSTNET Bar Coding, but are absolutely necessary with business reply and courtesy reply mail. In short, if you are doing third class bulk mail, you do not need to use FIMs.

  5. If you do need FIMs, graphics versions done in FreeHand 2.0 can be obtained from CompuServe's Mac Applications Forum (Library #2/Word Processing). The name of the file is FIMCOD.FH2.
